Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT is a quite an expensive headset, but there is a lot to pay for. Great sound, outstanding battery life with nearly 40 hours, Bluetooth connection are the most important things, but there is a lot more.
Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT
Listen to your music wirelessly with the Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT, combining lightness, sleek design, and great sound quality. Just pair the headphones with one of up to 8 devices that you can memorise using the Bluetooth technology, and one-touch pairing with NFC. The headphones are hybrid, that is, they can work both with a Bluetooth connection and with a cable.
The wired connection also allows you to enjoy a high-resolution audio as Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT is equipped with new 45mm drivers to deliver a high-quality audio.
The Play/Pause, Volume, Next Song functions are integrated into the ear cup allows you to have perfect control over your music.
The headphones are lightweight and easy for carrying with a flexible folding design. Take all the benefits from the shape of ear cushions made from memory foam which is easily adjustable to provide you with hours of listening, in the greatest comfort.
One full recharge of the headphones, you can listen to your music continuously for more than 38 hours using the Bluetooth connection.
Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT headphones are much smaller than we thought. The headphones are very light and basically made of matte plastic, with no prints.
The cups are small, but they cover the ears entirely. They’re something between the on-ear and over-ear type. The headband is narrow, without a lot of cushions, but it does not make the pressure on the head. On the summer days, in the room without an air conditioner, ears will sweat. The material on the headband and ear cups is eco-leather, everything is sewn properly. The headband doesn’t have a lot of cushion on it.
Ear cups are metal; the paint will not be erased after the actively everyday use of headphones. Soft memory foam guarantees maximum comfort even for long-term use. Of course, it’s hard to compare the comfort to that we have while using over the ear headphones but still they are very comfortable to wear.
Ear cups rotate so you can lay them flat, so they can easily adjust to your head size. When you’re adjusting them, you will hear little cliques. They’re not really solid but they do a job.
The pads are removable. It’s pretty easy to take them off and buy more pads.
On the left ear cup of the Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT is the micro USB connector for charging. There is also 3.5 mm jack for connecting the audio cable. Next to it is an indicator light which is small, hidden from the eyes, but it’s good. It shows the status of the connection, battery life and of course the charging.
The box is really thin not like other headphones. Inside the box is a pretty big leather bag, instruction manual in a lot of different languages, 3.5 mm jack with built-in mic and micro USB charging cable.
On the right-hand side is only the power button. On the left-hand side is the multifunctional button which you can use to control the playback. It can also answer to a call, do a skip and rewind and change the volume. If you want to skip tracks, you have to actually hold it up and it’ll skip once and hold it back and it’ll skip back. You can’t multiples skip ahead or go back more than twice and it doesn’t do fast forward or reverse.
Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT headphones support NFC to its fullest and it’s a lifesaver because you only have to tap once on the side of the ear cup and they magically connect. No more searching for the device making it active, it just works. If you aren’t familiar with NFC, you can still connect them using a traditional way of pairing using a Bluetooth.
The volume level when you connect the headphones to a smartphone will be the same on both the headset and the device. The headphones play differently if you drive them at full volume for at least a couple of days. That is, a kind of “warm-up” helps to reveal the possibilities of the gadget.
The audio quality of the Audio-Technica ATH-SR5BT is maximally neutral, without bulging low frequencies and without a focus on vocals, so you can listen to any musical material with comfort. The sound on the Bluetooth is very good but they don’t have a lot of basses. That’s because the Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT headphones have only a 45 mm of dynamic drivers.
The highs and mids are very good, and the highs are a little bit accentuated. Jazz lovers will have to make some changes in the equalizer, techno lovers must put lows to the maximum.
We mostly tested them with the iPhone 6S Plus, with gadgets that support aptX. We prefer to use it, although there is not much difference for music streaming services.
The battery lifetime is about 38 hours and it’s incredible because it’s about working in playback mode at an average volume. This is very, very good. Charging time when using a conventional laptop USB – about 5 hours is long, but you can use headphones for weeks. After five days of use (about three hours a day on a smartphone and other devices), you can’t completely drain the battery. At the end, this parameter is amazing.
In conclusion, Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT headphones are light and comfortable. They don’t attract as many views as bright red Beats by Dre but if you want to buy these, then you care more about the sound reproduction and the quality of the product. But that doesn’t mean we don’t like them visually. Audio Technica ATH-SR5BT headphones look stylish and quality. They are perfect for international traveling because of an outstanding battery life. They are definitely worth the price.
