The Sennheiser RS185 are Wireless Bluetooth headphones but enough compared with the sea of Wi-Fi places you will see elsewhere. They do not use Wireless Bluetooth, but a unique RF system that provides much better range and an uncompressed sound flow.
That is right; these are Wi-Fi headphones. The Sennheiser RS185 is dwsigne for your home use as the earphones speak to a dock that needs to get in touch to the mains, but if that is what you are after, I would suggest this pair over a Wireless Bluetooth set any day.
At £269.99, you can get better sound if you go wired, but that is always true. If Wi-Fi is necessary, these need to be near the top of your record.
Most Wi-Fi headphones are designed to plug a phone. Not the Sennheiser RS185. They had much rather get in touch to a hi-fi.
The Sennheiser RS185 come in two parts, the docks and the earphones. The docks serve as a charging device for the headphones and require a wired connection from whatever resource you want to use.
You have a choice of visual input. Analogue or Digital: choose. Sennheiser has been making this type of Wi-Fi earphone for quite a long time, but it is still very unusual among headphones usually. Rf places like this just aren’t ‘in fashion’ like Wireless Bluetooth ones.
Sennheiser RS185 – Simple setup
The system comprises of two components: the headphones themselves and a platform place (transmitter) that enhances as a charging might store the headphones on when not in use. That platform area is pretty light and portable and does not precisely express high-end construction, but it is designed to be hidden away and is kept out of perspective. On the back, it has to search for visual connection as well as a 3.5mm analogue minijack feedback that allows you to plug it to a TV or any sound element that has identical results with the involved wires.
Sennheiser RS185 – Wireless Range
The Sennheiser RS185 takes the ‘dumb’ sound signal then it uses RF to deliver it uncompressed to the earphones. I well-informed none of the bugs you can often get with Wireless Bluetooth headphones even at short range. The specifications list also indicates the Sennheiser RS185 have a much better range that Bluetooth: 100m.
Of course, that is when there is a clear type of vision between the docks and the headphones. I examined the Sennheiser RS185 in a regular house, with surfaces and linked devices that might intervene with the 2.4-2.48GHz group the connection runs using.
Sennheiser RS185 – Sound Quality
The whole point of the Sennheiser RS185 is that they get you better sound great quality and convenience than most other Wi-Fi headphones. Sure enough, they provide for the most part.
An open-back design gives them a great sensation of scale so that even with a proper and balanced amount of bass on tap they do not ever seem bogged-down. You will find a different sound ‘styles’ in Sennheiser’s pretty extensive HD series for the headphones, and the pair of Sennheiser RS185 headphones are among the ‘darker’ places.
The sound is somewhat dense and wealthy, not shiny and uncompromisingly accurate. They are not wi-fi counterparts of the AKG Q701 that is for sure.
While I have not observed them for a while, the sound design is a very identical to Sennheiser’s traditional HD 650. Its high-fidelity sound, but without the type of overall tone that is out to show details and nothing else. Detail is outstanding, but Sennheiser levels out that with a full-fat overall sound.
Sennheiser RS185 –Performance
Set-up needs nothing much more than running the provided AAA battery power into each headshell via a quickly turned ear cushion removal, and then connecting your wires to the transmitter platform. No ‘pairing’ function is needed, since the headphones come pre-paired with the transmitter, and in the new creation is made of triggered instantly when you power up the headphones, another timesaving reward.
Connectivity is enhanced over the first creation as well. The RS 185 transmitter platform has both analogue and visual information, with a change between the two on the back. The visual feedback is very useful for TV sound — all contemporary TVs provide a visual outcome at a set level (indeed some no longer provide an analogue earphone or range output), and the wi-fi Sennheisers are ideal for decent up those activity film soundtracks when everyone else is sleeping.
The Sennheiser RS185 are identical to the RS220 I analysed decades back again. The sound, the Wi-Fi transmitting design and the development and design and elegance are all similar.

Should I buy the Sennheiser RS185?
The Sennheiser RS185 are identical to the RS220 I analysed decades back again. The sound, the Wi-Fi transmitting design and the development and design and elegance are all similar. However, battery power lifespan has drastically enhanced from 8 hours to 18. Of course, if you are going to use them for a 2-3 time, that hardly issues.
The Sennheiser RS185 do not need extreme improvements, though, because they have so few great quality competitors in this part. Sony models provide a few sets still, but as I have not analysed them, yet we cannot attest to their great quality. As is ever the situation with Wi-Fi headphones, you can get better sound great quality for the same price if you dump Wi-Fi.
Sennheiser RS185 saves its cause in Wi-Fi headphones with the amazing RS 185. The design boundaries their use to surroundings where you will be alone, they leak too much sound to use them in the same room as someone. They merge convenience with outstanding sound high quality while providing enhanced connection, range and function over the first creation.
